22r only running of 2 minutes

my friends 85 truck 22r will start up and only run for about 2 minutes before it feels like its starving for gas and takes for ever to get it running again for a few more minutes. any ideas i told him to check the fuel filter but not sure.

It could be a plugged fuel filter, the fuel pump going bad, or a bad accelerator pump if its carbed. if its fuel injected check the fuel pump and filter.

check the AAP auxiliry accelerator pump first, it's on the right side on carb (your facing engine) towards the front of carb and has a single vac line going to it. And is triangle shapped with 3 screws on it...Take off air cleaner first. To get at it better. Disco the vac line and plug line with like a golf tee while engine is off and then start truck and see if it doesn't die or runs rough. If it still doesn't run better then your AAP is ok. If it starts to run better, go to NAPA and order there part.
My truck ran rough and dies and I did what I discribed above and it ran great. got the part from napa put the vac line back on and now it runs awesome like it did before the diaphram went bad...Good luck...

If its carbed, I'd say definitly check the fuel filter. These get overlooked as they are under the bed in front of the right rear tire. Many folks dont even know there is a filter there! Small in size, so they do get plugged up. Especially if your area uses oxygenated fuel. (winter blend in many areas) contaisl alcohol and lets a bunch of gunk in older rigs loose.
