1984 pick up electical problems
ya'll can use your imagination, all I need to know is:
Can you fry the electrical system in an 84 toyota by putting jumper cables on backwards(on the charged battery) and trying to jump it? If yes what do I have to do to fix it? Just fuses? or is there something else involved... and type slow I'm pretty much retarded when it comes to electronics.

yes!
could be as simple as a fuse or you could melt (multiple) wires.
ive seen a battery explode from being connected incorrectly.
did any fuses blow? which?
what the status of it now?

It'll turn over but not firing. If I turn the key the windshield wipers automatically come on, and I can't turn them off. I'm not sure if my buddy put the connection on the tower or the frame, I'm afraid that he hooked the clamp onto a wire and fried it. Its pretty hard to work on where its sitting now(dark corner of a underground parking)

ok, update, I found one 10A fuse blown, I think it was the left H one. The weird thing is when I turn my key off the engine jumps. Its like as I turn the key off I get a bit of juice going to the starter.
Only way to turn off the wipers is to pull the 60A fuse.
Any ideas?

Update:
Ok, I replaced the starter relay, and the fuese, still nothing. The wipers are still going whenever I turn the key, and the truck still jumps when I turn the key off.
Is there something farther up the line that I could have done? Does anybody know if the power to the wiper is connected to the fuel pump? I tried to replace the fuel relay but they can't even find a part number.
If I cooked wires what am I looking for? I seriously suck at wiring. Could I have blown a wire and causing a short?
Amy tips are appreciated... right now I am just debating burning it to the ground for the truck gods and getting a new one.

The fuel pump should be mechanical and completely unrelated to any electrical currents. Unless I missed something where you said it was an aftermarket pump.

You could have fried the voltage regualtor (sometimes called an IC regulator) which is external and located on the inner drivers-side fender.
This is one of the first stops that wires make from the battery throughout the wiring harness. Whatever you fried is probably under the hood. Since you all ready replaced the starter relay, my money is on the regulator.
OR
You did melt a wire, in which case it melted itself into another wire and/or grounded itself. Say for example, your winshield wiper grounded itself at some point between the keyed-ignition and the actual lever. SO, all the wiper motor would need is to be turned on via the key and make the lever useless.
BUT, I'm not saying it is that exact wire. That specific section simply travels between key and lever... both of which are located in the steering shroud. It MIGHT be worth the time to remove this, seeing as ther are only a handful of easily-reachable philips screws.
Keep us posted!
Best wishes,
Dan
