I did the timing on my 87 2wd pickup no problem in auto shop. I was able to leave it there and work on it during class. Took me around 2 weeks with about 2 hours of hard work a day. Of course I had access to general air tools, a vehicle lift, and a few of the technical tools such as the puller and torque wrench. I didn't remove the head, but was very careful not to damage anything. The front cover comes off fairly easily in my opinion. Just remove the bolts and pull it off. ENGNBLDR (Ted) is a great guy to do business with, he replies almost instantly and sells great american made products for a rock bottom price. I think my timing kit with a new front cover was around $85. Put it back together and the engine runs great, can barely hear it when it's running.

Hey there, i just got a question that should be pretty quick and easy. My chain, etc are all good to go, but i just need to replace the guides, thier shot. just wondering if anyone knew a good site for getting some new timing chain guides only, because i can only find places that sell the entire kit, and really dont have the money at the moment to buy the doa racing metal backed guides. Go to www.engnbldr.com. You can get the entire kit, including gaskets and a steel driver's side guide, for about $65 shipped. He also sells on eBay, possibly for a little cheaper. It is best to change it all while you are in there, especially for that price.
