Why expensive lockers in the front end???

I don't understand the reason for electric/ air lockers for the front axle... Would a spool be fine and you can just lock one hub for normal 4wd? Or lock both when needed?

the one locked hub theory doesn't work.
A fully locked front end in 4WD is difficult to turn. Selectable locker is the cat's meow...unlock it when you need it, no strain on the front end and much better driving characteristics

If you lock one hub with a welded or spooled diff, both tires will still spin the same speed, you just put more strain on the locked side. If you plan on driving 4wd on the road, don't get full locked, if you only use 4wd in the trails and you don't mind doing 3-4-5 point turns or getting out to unlock both hubs, get a spool or weld her up.

Solution: Aussie Locker in the front. Once I can afford one i'm doing this. Actually, I'm regearing to 4.11:1 and i want one of these It'll work well with my dual tranny setup in the future.

I am running an aussie up front. Now that my truck has assumed quisi DD duties I wish it was a selectable..4WD locked front end DD brings the suck in the winter..likes to pull straight in a turn... In the rocks I love it.. Someday will have an ARB or something selectable up front
