What is this part?


It's the piece underneath the carburetor on the intake.

My next question is whether or not I need this depending on how expensive it is?

That's the bvsv sensor. Look at my thread below. I was wondering the same thing.

Rule of thumb: It it has a 3/16 vacuum hose running to it and it is not your distributor then you don't need it unless you have smog regulations

Hey thanks for the help guys. I do get smogged, although it's a 79 and doesn't have a cat. I'll block it off for now.
