I am rebuilding an '82 and it will be a daily driver. Right now I have all stock gearing but plan on putting 31" tires on. I was also looking to swap the 4 speed for a 5 speed. It was recommended to me to go to 4.56 gears rather than keeping the stock 4.10's.

Any other opinions out there? Like I said…primarily a daily driver and I have the entire rear-end out right now so this would be the time to make any changes.

If I do change to 4.56 I have to do the same to the front…correct?

 

4.56 is right no the money.

you do not have to change the front at the same time, but if you plan to use fourwheel drive, then yes, you will need too do the front as well.
