What Clutch for a 2wd W50

Hello everyone,

So I have a 79 2wd with a 5 speed W50 in it that needs a new clutch, but I am having a hard time figuring out the correct one to use. I am looking to replace it with an OEM one and keep landing on the Aisin CKT-071 when I search. However, I had a few sites say that this isn't compatible and don't want to get everything torn down only to find out I got the wrong part.

Thanks for the help,
Tommy

Are you looking at Toyota dealerships? You should be able to cross reference the OEM part number.

From what I have been able to find the only differences are in the pressure plate. The 2WD "stock" versions have 4 springs in the plate, while the "heavy duty" or 4WD versions have 6 springs. I would assume this was done to give the 4WD version some more grip to prevent slippage while off-roading or hauling heavy loads. They are dampening springs to minimize & reduce the shock of clutch engagement. "performance" clutch sets all have 6 springs. All of the cover plates look to be the same; all have 18 spring "fingers" on them, regardless of specification for 2WD or 4WD. Also the same flywheel is specified for both 2WD & 4WD models, no difference there.

The Aisin CKT-071 has the 4 springs and would appear to be correct.

Also, here's a reference for all transmission related parts for your truck that are still available from Toyota: https://parts.lakelandtoyota.com/s/T...on-Manual.html
plus, all other OEM parts available: https://parts.lakelandtoyota.com/s/T...EED/parts.html
