Waiting on my truck to arrive

Glad you finally bought one. Now the fun begins. That missing panel in the tail gate was originally held on by the same Phillips head screws that are holding on the other two. IIRC, all three are identical and interchangeable. I had to remove mine to lube the tailgate handle/latch mechanism.
Thanks, Rick! Yes, the fun is about to begin. I’m planning to make a trip to see the guy with the parts next week. He is out of town right now. Hopefully I can make it over before they shut everything down. If I get quarantined I would like to have some parts to work on it.
I am getting together a list of what all I need to do to get this truck to my liking. Even though the previous owner states all the fluids have been changed I plan to change them all anyway.
I have been looking at the manual and it doesn’t specify what weight oil to use for engine oil. What are most people using?

I remember seeing a tutorial somewhere...Or a chart showing what weight to use for different temperature ranges. Depending on where you live, there is a "one size fits all" viscosity. Don't remember what it was. All my Tacoma takes is 5w30, so I'm starting to forget what I used to use...Either 10w30 or 10w40, I think.

Anyone have preference on oil weight? 5w-30 vs 10w-30 vs 10w-40, etc? I’d like to pick some up ASAP so I can be working on my truck while I am social distancing

I generally use 10W-30 for my 1987 22R.
10W-30 is the happy medium that Toyota recommends for most ambient air temperatures.
Here is the chart from my 1987 Owner's Manual. I think the one for your truck is very similar if not identical. The back cover of the Owner's Manual says "Use SAE 10W-30 if normal temperatures are above 0°F (-18°C)."

Thanks! Based on this I’m leaning to the 10w-40 since it is starting to warm up here. It gets pretty hot here in the summers. Temperatures often reach 100 F

Ok so I got off work and it was raining. I noticed I have a small leak on the top of the windshield. This truck has been kept covered so there is no rust and I’d like to keep it that way. The gaskets around the windshield are dry-rotted and have a shrunk leaving some gaps.
Can a windshield shop replace this? Would they have the proper gasket? It really doesn’t need a new windshield but it could use a shot drilled and glued.
Should I put a little silicon here temporarily to prevent any moisture getting in?

Yours is an earlier tailgate. The later tailgates, 82 up I think, had all the mechanism inside the tailgate, so you had to be able to access it. The early ones had two external handles. The later ones had a single pull handle in the middle of the tailgate, with rods going to each side to two latches. His panels are held on with phillips head screws.
