timing chain help
#1
i got a new cam and was putting it on today.it was all going good till i started to look at my timing chain. it looks very loose and is eating some bolt heads off from the slack. the chain only has around 1000 miles on it.did i get the wrong chain or what would cause this? i dont think its the original motor can you tell which chain i need?

do you have a macro mode on your camera? last 3 pic's are about worthless..
check with ted @ http://www.engnbldr.com/ he can probably clear it up...I thought there was something about pre 83 blocks being 1/4" taller than 84+ 22r blocks...

the last 2 pic are some fuzzy shots of the bolts that where ate away. i think they gave me the wrong chain. it would work great if it was around 1/4in shorter. wish i looked at it better the first time. thats a lot to tear down.

I just heared from Brian aka: WaskillyWabbit (EFI conversion questions) the later model 22R(E's) head is 1/4" taller (thought it was the other way around) ...sounds like your theory of the wrong part is correct and would account for the slack you are seeing...not all 22R's are created equally...that blows that someone gave you the wrong parts...

i got a new one on there now, or half way on. the spring thingy was broke also. the new one is nice and tight. no way it can move around. i couldnt get one guild off becuse the bolt head was ate off to bad but it looked good. the spring thing is only out 1/8in. or so. now i have to find out how to fix a camshaft hold down bolt.
