Timing chain guide broke...need cover
#1
Hi all, newbie here.
I have searched this and found that Penguin of Doom had the same problem I have. Timing chain guide broke and wore a hole into water pump. I checked and no block damage, so I am replacing timing chain etc. My problem is a timing cover. I know the newer (85 and up) 22r covers will not fit my (actually my son's) 83 22r. Anyone know where I can find one of those covers? Can I get one off of any 83 car or pickup?
Any help is appreciated.

might try www.engnbldr.com.
not sure if he'll have one for that year or not, but i'd say there is at least a decent chance. if you don't see it listed on the website, call.
(engnbldr is a great guy who runs a superb business. quality parts, the best customer service around, and cheap prices to boot.)

second the engnbldr nomination. Got my last rebuild kit from him from one of his ebay auctions. Do a search on ebay for toyota timing and you will find his kits w/ or w/o covers. If you cant find one from hime than I would try www.rockauto.com or one off of an 83 truck, runner, or celica. But try engnbldr 1st.

ahh, the elusive early timing cover. i checked parts houses and couldn't believe what everybody wanted! i saw prices as high as $180!. eventually had engnbldr look for one for me, and got me one for about $100 give or take a bit. since you have an early 22r with plastic guides and a single chain, i suggest getting an oil pump drive spline from a 20R or '81-82 22R and ordering an '81-82 dual row timing set with steel guides for a little extra security. should bolt right on with the pre-83 pump drive spline.
as far as i know, a 20R timing cover will work as well.
