Time for a chassis build..
The frame under my truck right now is basically junk. My cab floors need doing and my wiring is a mess so im thinking about doing a tear down of the truck again because its way easier to work on apart, and now having all the parts and knowing they all work it will be simple to put together again. Now, I have a 2nd gen 2wd frame that is rust free that I want to build. Plan is new suspension setup, the suspension under my truck right now is not what I was aiming for at all.
Plan:
- TG frame tubes/jigs $22
- TG 12" shock hoops and plate the frame
- TG or Sky front shackles
- Custom 2x3 Square tube/plate front drop hanger
- Custom IFS box mount
- Custom Transmission/Transfer case cross member (FROR style)
- Custom rear spring hangers
- Custom shock/gas tank cross member
- Custom rear cross member (only damaged part of the frame, its crushed in)
I really want to do this right, Suspension wise im thinking im going to use my 83 and 86 rear packs to build a rears up front set up. I cant decide on rears though, 63" Chev or 58" Ford Explorers, or aftermarket... tough call considering $100 + $65 worth of new bushings and more on top of that for standard size bolts or $220 for 3" trail gear rears which I know will work great and wont have to deal with ty, crusty old domestic springs and goofy wide hangers and shackles... Selling my Procomp springs will offset the cost either way. Just looking for some advice on this, I dont really have the money to be doing this though.

I would go with the chevies. In fact I did. They work great. Especially if you don't have the money to do this. Try and get them for cheaper than 100. I just made a long shackle in the rear and used the stock rear hanger. Loven em. If your going to do all that custom metal work, why don't make your own shackles/frame tubes/shock mounts instead of giving your money to trail gear. Trail gear sucks.

I am pretty sure I have got the frame jig and tubes left from my Trail Gear kit, did not need them. Yours if you want to pay the shipping from Beaverton, Oregon 97007. I have know idea what it may cost to send them up there.

to answer getitdone's question, id rather just pay the $22 for DOM slugs (rather than buying a length of DOM) and the jigs so they are in the same spot no matter what on either side. I was thinking TG Shackles because Il need the bushings and pins anyway and the greaseable pins are sweet, plus I cant find 18mm bolts anywhere and the wide body shackle will be good. Not so sure on the shock hoops but a buddy of mine has a set of TG ones he said I can have for $20.. thats why I put them on my list.. if I dont get those il just make some.
