Stabilizing "western style" side mirrors

I searched and searched and couldn't find anything. I have the factory option side mirrors and they won't stay in their place once I hit the road. Does anyone have a surefire way to stabilize them. I figured I'd ask before ripping into them or looking for replacements.

You're going to have to be more specific here. What year is the truck? What do you mean exactly by "western style" mirrors? Towing mirrors or something else? Pics would help. I'm also not too sure there was a "factory" option on those. Towing mirrors were usually a dealer add-on.

The truck is an 82. They are the door mounted large tow style mirrors.

The two screws next to the ball socket apply pressure to the socket.
i don’t think you could do much to effect the folding joint...mine are frozen, rusted i assume.

Yep, pretty much look like universal tow mirrors to me. What melrose said about the screws next to the ball socket is right on. Even the vertical style of mirrors work the same way.
