Talking Is it an SR5 ????? Yeah sure!

Seems everyone thinks they have a SR5 looking at signatures in these forums, really doubt it
esp pre '84's which is only what i like.
My PU Truck is a; Toyota (Basic, no delux package) 5sp 4X4 LB, not an SR5, just "Toyota Truck"...

Good explanation by Kyle in this old thread & link below that might set some straight?
Theres better definitions but found this quick: http://4x4.sr5.com/
maybe you can add to this.

I know from the serial number mine is a dlx, it seemed to have a lot of options like chrome bumpers and grille, headlight doors too, tach, oil & press gauges, sr5 steering wheel and wheels also, bucket seats, but l45 4speed

Nothing wrong with 4sp. whats the year and 2 or 4x4? never seen headlight doors on a toy truck, must look cool

Note not related; Saw the movie "little Nikita" last night and like the chase seen with a real nice pre-'84 Toyota 4X4. Can't tell what year it is or if delux but has round headlights and 3 tie down hooks on each side. My '82 has retangular lights and only 2 tie downs

a chase scene with a Toyota pickup? must have been a pretty short chase scene. how much of a headstart did the Toyota get? 30km?

My dads old 87 extra cab showed it was a sr5 on the title also. It was definitely not a sr5 though, it was a base model, no power, 22r, non tach gauges, nothing.

The vin doesn't lie (81-83).....if theres a D in the vin its a DLX.....if theres a S then its a SR5...easy as that.

My truck has the "D" in the vin number but the window sticker states that it is a SR5. An exception to the rule, I guess.

1981 4x4 short bed. Yes for me 4 speed is bad since with 4.37 gears and 31'' tires the rpms are too about 90 km/h, and I want to even shorter gears so I really want to swap it 5 speed, they are just so damn hard to find around here.

Headlight doors is a term I first read on here, it is the plastic trim surrounding the headlights wether round or square.

Just to add to the subject, a co-worker of mine who used to have an 85 corolla hatch told me he always wanted a ''toyota sr5'' back in the day talking about my truck, maybe that's how some people called them since they never got a clear name (pickup, truck, 4x4, 4wd). Wish they called them hilux here too!

This sales sticker was interesting. Now i know mine is a stripped down manure hauler, Think we all would lov to have yours

ps. the chase seen in 'little nikita' was trying to catch up with a trolly streetcar in San Diago towards end of movie. Poor review in 1988; ( http://www.rogerebert.com/reviews/little-nikita-1988 ). Not a fast chase but nice to see if ya have a 4x4 like it.
I thought they took one dip much too fast for a solid front axle but it had large off road tires. I'm careful since mine bent in a accident and I inflate to no more than 26psi front, book says 20 but no power steering on mine .

Found it; 1981 pu. http://search.aol.com/aol/search?ena...ota+truck+pics

Guess what? My '82 has a "D" in the ID number, 8th charater. If mine is a Dlx it was really stripped, lol

On the "SR5", its almost meaningless for a discription and people keep discribing there trucks on the forum here with "SR5" thinking everyone should know what it is? I think they feel its a status to be labled sr5, great sales labling tecnique. Give it a cool badge and will sell millions

I drove into the Toyota dealer new sales side a year ago and 2 salesmen said, Is that a SR5? SR5 on the brain

my Vin, and EPC show mine as a dlx model, however I have the 2 piece door panels, gauge cluster, carpeted floor, and back wall, tilt, power steering, and other things that make me think SR5. I assumed it was just put together al a carte. that's the way it works sometimes. you pay one price for a bundle with a SR5 package, or you make an SR5 paying for each individual option. some of these options could have been installed at factory, port, or dealership.

I also knew all these trucks as Sr5's in the 80's because they had no name.

DLX might be acronym for deluxe, but its a base model. nothing deluxe about a dlx. my 4runner is a dlx, and it didn't even have a backseat from factory. lol

I think it can't be an sr-5 if it didn't come with a 5 speed. SR5 standing for sport rally 5 speed isn't it?

My DLX came pretty well equiped.

Lots of guessing going on so i will also;-) We know the SR5 is a sports package but the 5 isn't always 5 speed according to many that have seen SR5 on auto trans veh and 4 speed's? Need more input or find better answers on sites....

Note; I dont think it really matters what you lable these trucks but you cant expect people to know on the forum what you have in regards to if its a car or truck, 2x4 or 4x4, automatic 4 or 5 speed, long or short bed. When someone posts a question and just says; "I have a SR5 and can you answer this question" How can you answer without knowing the basics? waste more time clearing up what type vehicle your driving? No biggy but just my thoughts.
