Re 79 Cab mounts:

Hi - Anyone have experience/insights replacing Cab mounts without removing the Cab? Sees doable based on urls below - I won't be using a Hi-lift jack....(?) Thanks.

It’s doable

I replaced mine a month ago without removing the cab. I used my three ton floor jack with some 6 x 6 blocks to get the necessary lift height.

I remember the middle two under the new floorboards being a little harder to remove for some reason. I think they were just stuck in place after forty years. My exhaust system was out as well as my fuel lines and brake lines. The front two were super easy but the engines out also 🙂

The back two were also pretty quick and easy. Good luck!

One more thing

You probably figured this out already but after you get all six bushings installed it’s easier to align the cab with the bed if you have the truck jacked up from one side as opposed to lifting it in the middle. Then as you lower the cab it’s easy to push it left or right as needed.

Hi & thanks a lot all - should be getting painted cab back soon -
Replacing bushings only - Plan is to:
Remove insulating tape over bolts - soak in Kroil for a few days. (Front bolts should be easy as I had front third of rusty floor on both sides replaced.)
Loosen all Cab mount bolts - remove nuts on side to be replaced. Inspect & Clean up mounts.
Lift Cab on one side and replace bushings & then replace bolts/nuts on that one side without tightening - Don't plan to remove anything else - just watch connections (brakes I think plus some electrics assuming I see some that are at risk) as I lift a side 1" max(?)
Repeat process on opposite side - check cab fit/alignment and tighten bolts.

Comments on above welcome are very welcome...

Sounds like a plan. Block the cab off when it goes up so it doesnt fall or anything.

Loosen all the bolts, but only remove the bolts on the side you're replacing first. put in new bushings on that side, install bolts and just finger tighten. Repeat for other side.
