Rattle time!
#41
Wow it has been a long time since I posted. I apologize but life, work, and the new baby have been taking a lot of time. My truck now runs like a raped ape! I finally nailed down all of the vacuum leaks, jet issues, timing crap, and ignition (the main source of my problem).
Anyway that's not what this thread was about. I got the Raptor Liner on and if I would have known what this stuff was like I would have tinted it tan and painted the whole truck in it!!! I swear this stuff is harder than rock and it looks good too. I only have night shots of it but more pics will be coming tomorrow. I'm not done with her yet.

Just some of the taping which was mostly unnecessary. This Raptor Liner has very little overspray to be truthful. It needs to be sprayed for best results though so a small downside. Also you need a regulator. I sprayed this at 50psi and it came out well imo.

And get the tape off quick!! I had a few spots that I will have to clean up but I have time for that now that it's sprayed. I left my truck in one spot for a couple of days to dry before I went messing with it.
These are still wet pics. Tomorrow I will have dry.

Spray. Honestly it was easier to spray than rattle can. One tip though. If you have a lifted truck....get I to the bed and spray from the front back. I had the devil of a time reaching over the bed rail and I'm 6'.

Here are the day pics as well as the top rack for the back. The texture is really smooth imo. Nothing that would scrape your knees but grippy at the same time??? Whatever that sounded wierd and then I went and double posted. Sorry about that. Pictures are below.

And here is the final picture I have for this truck. For my next application I'm doing the tintable kit on my 98 4runner....at least I think. I'm a little more cautious about painting an entire newer vehicle in this stuff but I think it will come out well. Total project looks to be in the $600 range after equipment and paint booth rental.

It came out better than I could have ever dreamed to be honest. It wouldn't have been possible without the great threads here on Yotatech on everything from swapping engines to painting/bodywork. Thank you to everyone who has done a writeup and hopefully I have helped someone as well.

I think your truck looks really nice. I love the truck bed rack thingy you got going on. And your front bumper looks a lot like my old one and makes me want to put it back on lol.
Good work

If you would believe it I didn't know anything about that truck when I picked it up besides basic mechanical inclination. I wish I had more green rectangles to just sit and work/play on it lol.

I also painted my first gen bed with raptor liner 2 first gens in fact and it turned out great the first one i did i forgot the tube to the gun after i mixed the first bottle with hardener.... i couldnt drive the truck back home to get the tube since i already spent an hour taping the truck off so i hitched a quick ride to town and got it in time to still be able to use the bottle. the bed held up a year with abuse (hauling wood) and had minimal scratched paint.[IMG]

I would highly recommend painting the whole truck in bedliner like raptor or monstaliner if you are scared of body work. It will do a good bit to hide certain imperfections.

The body work is definitely the most important and hardest part of painting the bed. Since most of these trucks are work trucks things get thrown and with pretty much no regard for it. Also since the bed is one wall its pretty easy to get some bumps jutting out the sides. Actually spraying the bedliner is easy, it only took me 1-2 hours. . Wire wheel the rust off, taking care of bumps, taking care of rust (especially the seams) welding in patches, Getting those patches smooth and bondo over it then getting the bondo smooth its close to 24 hours of work. then resealing the seams. its pretty much endless since its 30 years later and abuse can get pretty bad. Ive used a professional spray gun before and was horrible so my painting skills are mediocre but doing the raptor liner was easy as long as you get a good even coat and go over spots you missed. its worth it after words though haha.
