problem with electric choke?

I have a 79 with a 20/22r hybrid that I recently got running. The truck has a Weber 34 with an electric choke that the previous owner installed as well as an electric fuel pump and adjustable regulator. The electric choke is wired so that it has power when the ignition is in the "on" position.

I don't think the choke is working on the truck because when it is cold outside and I try to start the truck it doesn't want to idle. The only way I can keep it running is raising the idle speed with the gas pedal until it is warmed up.

Any suggestions? I would also really appreciate some tuning advice from anyone else running this 34 weber (solex) carb.

I have to high idle mine for a minute or two when the engine is cold too. I think this is common or normal. My Weber also has an electric choke. If it bothers you that much you can replace the choke with a new one or a manual choke, I've seen them on ebay for under $20.

try adjusting the high idle a little bit, it might be too low. the electric supply to the choke actually does not help it engage, it's to help it disengage by heating up the coil. Alot of people think the opposite so I had to throw that out there.

P.S. are you stepping on the pedal to the floor a few times before starting it? You have to to engage the choke and to throw a little fuel into the motor.
