I inherited my grandfather's daily driver about 6 months ago and I thought some of you might like it.
1980 sr5 Rwd
-Truck currently sits at 523k miles (the only reason I. know this is because my grandfather bought it off the lot in 1980 and was the only owner until he passed away last year and kept track of the milage when it rolled.)
-Bottom end has never been rebuilt but the head was machined and reinstalled at 315k . Trans has been rebuilt once at 345k. It doesn't burn a drop of oil, the only leak is a small front main seal leak.
-I havent done a ton to it but ive just made it a little easier for me to drive regularly. (I drive it a couple times a week to work)
-weber 32/36 carb (aisin carb needed rebuilt so I decided to upgrade I went from 12mpg to 18-19 doing 70mph on the highway)
-gm 3 wire altinator conversion
-k&n intake adaptor from lc engineering
-lc engineering performance oil pump (18psi at idle and 60 on the highway)
-trans and engine mounts
-timing chain and tensioner
-h4 headlight conversion
-ac blows colder than anything else i own
The camper shell screams 80’s awesome, love it!!!!! Awesome you have it and awesome to have a sweet memory of your grandpops!!!!!
Welcome to Yotatech
So true. So do those Western Wheel Bullet mags. My buddy had a short bed like this. We slammed it and he had those rims but got them polished. This was prime '80s mini truck mania!! We were in a club and he even had the club name painted on the back window. lol So funny to look back now.
