Need help/suggestions on servicing '80 front end.
Sorry fro all the questions, but id rather make one post instead of a few.
I did a complete fluid change on my '80 pickup 4x4 i just got. Transmission, transfer case, and both diffs. There were very small (like powder small) shavings of metal packed in the magnetic drain plugs of everything. Now there is no telling when the last time any of this was changed. I would not be surprised if it has been 10-15 yrs. (A older man just kept this truck at his hunting lease since 2001). Im thinking it is just wear and plan on changing the fluid again in a month or so too look for more shavings. Thoughts? Also i am going through my front end right now, and replacing my tie-rod ends. I can not get to unseat from the knuckle arm. I have been using a nut and hammer and it is a PITA. Are the pullers at auto parts stores any good?
I also need to service my front axle. Wheel bearings and knuckle rebuild. I know Marlin has a complete kit, is there any others out there? (I have a youngan' on the way and need to be as cost effective as possible so i dont get in trouble). Yes i have searched, and did not really find what i was looking for. Sorry for the novel long post.
Thanks,
Stephen

TRE puller or pickle forks work. You can rent from local auto parts.
