Need help with '81, weber, and ca emissions

Hello yotatech,

I have a California 1981 sr5 that's 4wd that has a smog check coming up soon. My truck has a weber 32/36 DGEV on it that is stamped and legal. My issues are that I was doubling checking everything while replacing really old vacuum lines to make sure I will pass and noticed some differences in my truck and the diagrams I have. Does anyone else have a 1981 pickup with a weber 32/36 that passes smog that I could get some info from as to where all of their vacuum lines went to?

Here is what I have,

Here she is in all of her glory. The K&N is going bye bye for the factory air cleaner for smog.

This is my stumper. I don't know how those are supposed to be connected. They are not shown in the weber or dealer diagrams; only the FSM.

I believe those are my VSV's: AI 2 and AI 3.

I think this is the VSV (Air Bleed).

Weber/Redline's diagrams.

Diagrams from FSM for 1981 Toyota Pickups.

Dealers' diagram.

Dealers' diagram.

Any insights?

P.S. I am working on scanning my entire FSM for the 1981 Toyota pickups for those of you who need it. If you have any questions until then, holler at me and I will do my best to help you out.

I was curious if the Weber is California Emissions legal. I am curious to see what you make out on it. I am no help but am looking forward to your results.

Yes the carb is ca legal. I had the part numbers on it run by a smog check station before it was installed.

I wouldn't be so concerned about this but apparently the truck failed smog and was listed as a gross polluter before I owned it. Now I have to take it to a star station for the smog and I just want to do everything I can to insure I pass and don't get robbed.

Since you have an o2 sensor hook up an air/fuel mixture gauge. See what is being read by the sensor and you can make adjustments till it cleans up. If the carb is running real rich it will fail. Make sure your egr works too, it lowers combustion temps which reduce NOx.
It helps to have a read-out of the amounts to see what is happening.

81 weber

Hi, I'm in Cali too. My Weber passed the visual with the stock air cleaner. Follow the Redline drawing as CARB had to allow them to commit some items. I'm in the middle of an engine rebuild on mine. Make sure all smog stuff is there even if plugged. Mine almost passed and I know I have a bad CAT. So I will be adding that too. Also call Redline tech support. Very helpful.

Did you figure it all out and pass smog? Today I did up the rest of my vacum lines. Boy what a pain. I'm glad the engine is still out on a stand as it makes it a bit easier on figuring out where it all goes. I had removed almost all of my vacum hoses so I started out fresh. Purchase plugs to cap off the dead ports not used. I think I had 4. I enclosed a picture of mine today.
