need advice before head bolt up

Ok I have got all the timing cover on and oil pan and before I put my head on I wanted to put a light coat of oil in the cylinders well I rotated the crank bolt while holding up on the cam sprocket and when it rotated back the timing marks are off now and I know for a fact that they were right when I put everything back on and it seems like everytime I turn the bolt to tdc the chain is in a new position. I'm so upset right now and I really don't know what to do so any advice would help thanks

You will get through it...its gonna run great. Confidence will soar. Stage 2 toyota fever will begin. May result in more toyotas.

I believe they line up every 16 turns of the crank. The bottom sprocket has 18 teeth, the top sprocket has 36 teeth and the chain has 96 links. To get the chain to line up perfectly again you need 288 links which divides by 36 evenly 8 times. Then multiply that by 2 (since your crank turns twice to turn the cam once). If my math and philosphy are correct, it should take 16 turns to line up the bright link in the chain with the dimple mark in the cam. Pretty sure that is correct, but it doesn't really matter if the marks aren't lining up if it was initially set properly.
