Me, my dog, and a 77 sr5

I've made it to the Black Hills!!!!! I think I got some bad fuel in Bozeman she starting running real bad for awhile but cleared up when I put in some seafoam and adjusted the micro adjustment on the distributor. I've been getting 24 mpg driving 55 to 60. Tomorrow I unload the bike and go for a ride. I'm going to be staying here with a friend for a few days. Bruno is happy to be out of the truck. Damn dog decided it was time to shed his winter coat and being part Chow, he sheds like a buffalo. I've been eating fur the whole way. Glad to be done with the passes about the only hill I have left is crossing the Missouri.

Great news man! Glad to hear it's been going so well. I think your truck is making the trip better than most would! Sounds like you have a solid rig and you're having a great trip.
I'm jealous...I miss the mountain air.

Wow, how did I miss this thread? Cool write up. I'm pulling for ya. That old truck sounds like it is running strong, so It should be smooth sailing from here on out. No more steep grades will make the miles tick past a little faster too.
I'm looking forward to updates.

I've made it to Butte ! Got over the passes in Idaho. At lookout pass I had to shift down to 3rd and slowed to 37 miles per hour. I'm going to hit the continental divide in the morning. After the next 100 miles it'll flatten out. Going to try for the Black Hills tomorrow. I've got a good friend there so I think I'll crash at his place for a few days and unload the bike and go for a ride in the hills before the bike rally.
I packed the bearings this morning and they seem to be fine now. The oil hasn't come off the full mark yet even though the crank seal is leaking a little.

Well I got to my buddies house today and unloaded the bike. Went for a ride up Spearfish Canyon. Any stress I had from the move and the drive are gone. If you've never been to the Black Hills, get here. I don't know how long I'm going to stay over here before I head east to Fedora. It might be awhile.

Cool post, I love hearing about peoples adventures. I made the trip from Phoenix to Milwaukee a few years ago in my truck and have fond memories. Its awesome to see such an old truck make the move with you. What bike is that? A CX500?
#29
Yeah it's an old Honda CX500. Great old bikes. I painted it up last winter. The picts are from Spearfish canyon. Awe inspiring scenery to say the least. Found out why I was getting a hot wheel bearing today, looks like the inside piston has been dragging. I took it apart today and cleaned up the piston and sprayed it down with some gunk penetrate oil. It should get me to Fedora but I'm going to need a new rotor. I'm going to try to hit the road tomorrow morning. I hope it isn't as windy as it is today. I'd get good mileage as it would blow me home but might blow the trailer around a bit too. These old prairie winds can blow! Here's a pict of Bruno doing what he loves best.

Here's the old truck with a little less weight( feels like she's got a V8 compared to loaded)

This is awesome.
I am living vicariously through you! I am envious to say the least.
What kind of dog is that, he is awesome. I'm missing having a dog...I have two cats who are awesome but it's not quite the same...
Thanks for all the updates, keep them coming.

I've made it to Fedora!! She ran great across the state and I arrived yesterday at 2:30. I don't know if it was the fixing the caliper,a small twist on the distributor or if it was just getting close to home but she wanted to go 75 to 80 so I let her. Bruno, who mother was half lab half dalmation and father was half lab half chow, is happy to be off the road. I don't have internet at my old man's so I won't be posting much for awhile but will put some more picts together .

Update
Been back here in SD for almost a year now and things have been going great. I got a job right away machining parts for custom corn combine heads and also bought a house in Carthage, SD. Cheap property here $5,000 bucks with 3 lots ( yeah that is only three zeros ). The cat ended up turning up at the neighbors house in Wa and is currently happy and spoiled in his new home. Got the dog a new buddy. Also shot probably 50 pheashants last fall.
