Hey guys, new to the site here.
I’m looking to buy a 1983 toyo, the only thing is it has no tailgate. I’m having trouble finding anything online. A local scrapyard has an 84 in their yard but I don’t think it’s compatible, right? Anyone who knows about this or even has one to sell, let me know.

 

79-83 2 and 4 WD are what you're looking for. Getting pretty tough to find decent beds for these. Good luck!

Edit: an 83 would likely have the single latch in the middle of the tailgate so you would need an 83 or maybe and 82. I believe all 81 and older have the double latches.

 

My 81 has a Pro Gate air gate and honestly, it functions about as much as any other tail gate when it comes to keeping larger objects in the bed. I do hate the look of it though and wish I had an original tail gate.
I wonder how much fab work would have to go in to making an 84 gate fit. It can't possibly be that far off. My guess is the internet has discussed this idea some where in the past.
It would also be great to see someone offer an after market gate to hold a spare tire or jack that bolts in and uses the original latch system and hinges.

I wouldn't let the lack of a gate keep me from buying a sweet truck though! I probably wouldn't even haggle the price over it...maybe I would.

 

I have a 1986 tailgate, I don't suppose that would work would it?

 

I've got a mint one from an '82 that is in primer with minor body work completed. Would need hardware. PM me.

 

Sorry, after further consideration my 86 tailgate/hardware probably won't work but if you've got a mint 82 you are almost there.
