Charging Issues

83 pickups not charging here's what's going on:
New alternator (rebuild) from rockauto
Changed engine and gauge fuses
Cleaned/tightened connections at battery
Charge light relay is plugged in, charge light will turn on
Checked connections at voltage regulator
Voltage Regulator is 5-pin connector,
alternator matches, fsm does not detail testing 5 pin connector, dird anyone have any tips?
Will not charge with charge light relay disconnected
Will not overcharge with regulator disconnected
When I first put in New alternator and ran truck battery read 13.5v made a trip to town, checked battery on return and was at 12.5v
Disconnected battery line from alt. Started truck, checked battery post on alt with voltmeter got reading of .53? Alternator does not have magnetic field on back.

So what do you guys think? Does this sound like a bad rebuild? Confused why I would have perfect charge at first and then have it stop charging. Any suggestions? Things I've overlooked? As always any help is appreciated.

Update, 5-minutes after posting that I went back to the truck to keep checking connections, it ended up being the 5 pin connector to the voltage regulator. I unplugged it with truck running then reconnected it and moved it around, after a minute it started making noise and the battery was charging again. Just got back from town and it held up. Thinking everything is alright.
