i've been looking for a pre-75 hilux for a few months and this one's been on the market for a while. looks like it could be fun, but personally i think it's a shame to have chopped into an old hilux like this since they are somewhat rare.

I have to agree somewhat.
Something that classic should be treated a little better.

THAT rig would be a much much better buy IMO. pretty much a turnkey street-legal crawler.

The first one is turn key, pre smog, street legal, and has an engine that makes 1.5x the power as the second one for the same price.

I think the 75 is a better buy.

yes, the 75 is rarer, but i still cant get over chopping it up like that.

either way, both are turnkey rigs, each has pros/cons, and both come with lots of aftermarket goodies for the price. i only suggested the 83 because it has ARB locker/OBA, says what kind of dual cases it has (ultimate vs vague "dual cases"), internal roll cage, Detroit rear vs welded, and a few other things - also seems like he knows what he is talking about. also the 83 has been trail tested vs the 75 which who knows what'll happen first time it's out and makes you wonder why someone put all that effort into a rig then up and sells it before enjoying it or even testing it. The 2rz is a nice addition to the 75, but why didn't they go with more powerful 3rz or even a 1uz/2uz V8 since they have no smog? I also really like the tcase shifter through the bench seat

Trekker -- what parts are you looking for? There are some Toyota-only salvage yards and individuals who only part out Yotas, here in CA

Too bad the guy decided to waste his money by getting 40's on that '83. Once those tires are smashed up into the fender the truck isn't going anywhere without ripping off a fender or shredding a tire. I don't quite get why folks put tires that big on a 4 cylinder truck. There isn't a considerable advantage (if any) over something more reasonable like 33's or 35's on these trucks, even for 100% wheeling purposes.

Anyone seen a driver side headlight housing? Like this one http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Head-lamp-Housing-Left-Hand-Truck-LH-Driver-Side-Pickup-81-Auto-8115039475-/350986552594?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&fits=Year%3A1981%7CMake%3AToyota%7CModel%3APickup&hash=item51b86dc512&vxp=mtr
But for the drivers side?

Yeah, it's in the link you posted... Do you mean for the passenger side?

Good luck on that search if you want new OE replacements. I was considering doing square to round conversion on my truck, but couldn't find the passenger side either. Junk yard searches or posting in the classifieds would be the way to go

Yea I have round. I went to try and change headlights and the whole housing and bezels are rusted out so need to replace. I see a bunch of driver side housing around the web, but no passenger side. smh.

if you go to Sacramento CL, there is a couple who post every week with Toyota parts from rigs they part out. They have some Toyota-only operation somewhere up near Chico, CA, post regularly on CL, and drive parts down to Sac every now and again, which is why I know about them. Their contact is: lamkinranch@gmail.com, her name was Kristin.

Last year I contacted them inquiring about the round headlight bezels like you are seeking, because I thought about doing the conversion on my 3rd gen pickup - they had several sets at the time and only wanted $20 for the pair. They were willing to stick them in a flat-rate postage box too. I'm sure they would do the same for you, I don't see why not.

The poster took it down, but it looks like it was in my area.
If it pops back up, shoot me a PM and I'll go look it over and pass along the good bad and ugly.

I have a set of housing! Both sides in good shape! The passenger side is perfect and the drivers side has a small dent but I am wanting to sell them if you want them! You interested?
