... a 1st gen yota. I like the truck I have but it seems like the older vehicles were built tougher. I've been thinking about doing a SAS, or at least fixing up and doing what mods I can to my truck, but why not just get an older runner or truck?

You could....but depending on what you want to do with a First Gen, your still looking at the same amount of work if not more.

Figure in almost 30 year old truck, probably needs a engine overhaul, possibly tranny or transfer case too. If you want to lift it more than 3-4 inches, your still looking at cross over steering which is just about as much work as a SAS. You'd probably want to rebuild and upgrade the front axle. You'd probably want to swap in a IFS rear. Possibly a stronger tranny. Not to mention all the little things that pop up, hoses, gaskets, body mounts, wiring and not to mention all the comfy features your going to want after driving a 99.

Now, keeping the 99 and buying a 1st Gen to build, thats another story.
