Hilux Limited edition

I dont know if i am posting this in the right place or not so please forgive me

I just recently picked up a 1979 Hilux of Craigslist this weekend with a 22r and 5spd. I was just wondering how rare(if at all) these trucks are? Also, if anybody knows of anywhere i can pick up a set of badges for the truck, as the passenger side badges are missing.

Thanks
Chris

I'd say you're in the right place for the question

Here's the story, in 1979 Toyota shipped 1,089 Limited Edition Toyota 4WD Pickups to the US - supposedly one for each US Toyota Dealerships. It was the first year that the Toyota Manufactured 4WD Pickup came on the market. Each limited edition came with a plaque on the dash with the production number. Since yours is #1062, I wouldn't say that it is more or less valuable than most of the others that are lower than yours mainly because not a whole lot of them are still alive and well - It is all about condition, preservation and whether or not it is actually worth a certain amount to somebody (ie: when my truck is done, it would be worth around $12-15K to ME, but doesn't mean it is worth that much to anybody else). #1 of 1,089 is actually still alive as I almost bought it a couple years ago but somebody beat me to it (It sold for $3,200 I believe). It is currently in Laguna Beach, CA but has some pretty significant issues with it.

You can't pick up the badges as they are all one of a kind but you may be able to find somebody to CNC you some replicas. You also said that it has a 22R with a 5 speed - that year came with a 20R with a 4 speed so that isn't the original motor and tranny

If you post some pictures, we'll be able to give you a better idea of the value of the truck.

I know the 22r and 5 spd have been swapped in. I only have one of the exterior badges, the rest are missing. The body and interior itself is in pretty rough shape, with minimal rust. There are only 3 spots of rust on the truck, but lots of dents. I will post some pics when i get out of school tonight. Sadly my dash badge is missing

We can see the picture now....BTW exteriopr badges are available on Ebay, too bad the interior badge is missing. Looks like a decent start, would like to find one of those Limited Editions myself one day.

And rainbow colored! Nice

Yeah, if the drivetrain is in decent condition, and it's not all rust, that's a great deal.

Wow.. I just want to punch something about that truck! Not really, but it's still so astounding how horribly people can treat vehicles, especially such a rare example like that! I mean, DIY paint is one thing. Not bothering to remove the exterior decals before paint is another. :anger:

Ya. I am hoping to return it to the factory redish-orange color.
