help can i do this swap 82 22re with a 87 22r? both carbed
#1
Hey guys im new to these old trucks i just picked up a sweet 1982 4wd 5 speed pickup with a 22re (carb)really well taken care of and lots of goodies with it.
so this is my problem well driving to work my truck cut off and died strange i thought. got it running but had a hard time getting it going.
As the day goes on i drive it on my lunch and at work all day no issues, go to drive it home and im at a red light and the truck dies. so i try to quickly get it going as im turning onto the highways and people are behind me it starts not happily felt like it was locking i turn on to the high and dies. i pull over and start looking into to things check the oil and its very oil ( note the truck is lifted and i put new leaf's in the back to replace the old wore ones and now it sits at a bit of an angle to the rear) after seeing the oil was low and knowing it burn some i topped it up and tried to start it and it felt like the start was sticking, wasn't the case.
so after getting a boost it starts but made a awful screeching sound so i get it towed home change the oil to check for bits and didnt find anything. check the plug they looked ˟˟˟˟ty but noting strange. i get it to run but it has an awful knocking from the back end of the motor.
this leads me to think its a crack shaft bearing, and from i heard your not fixing that.
i have it at a shop to confirm what i think.
now waiting for them to get back to me.
i wanted a back up anyways so i went and pick a 1987 pickup 2wd auto with a 22r.
im hoping i can swap these engines fairly but im not to sure after learning the 22r is smaller
is this right?
i thought the only deference with the 22r and 22re was FI for RE and carb for the R.
can i do this without much issue
any help would be great i love this truck and really want to get back to driving it
