GM alt bracket

Ive installed a GM alt on my 77 20r. I made the bracket, it wasnt perfect but real close. After a month or so the alternator bearings were growling at me. So ive got a new alt and bought the trail gear bracket. The trail gear bracket is much thicker than the original and the one i made. It wont slide between the motor and motor mount. Am I missing something or do i need to modify something. Also the old bracket and the one i made have 3 mounting holes, theres just a spacer for the other enginge mound bolt. And I can't seem to get the spacer out so i can use the 4 bolt design. Am I supossed to buy new engine mounts or what?

Also, on the trail gear website they have install instructions. The instructions tell you to remove intake parts and the upper radiator hose. My alt goes on the drivers side of my engine. And the bracket looks like its made to fit the drivers side. But TG is talking about the passenger side?? Anyone have experiencd with these?
