Electrical Problems

I'm having an intermittent problem with my truck where it will click once and then loose all power when I go to start it.

I assume that that means that there is a short in one of the wires that goes from the starter to the battery.

The problem started the day after I replaced the positive battery cable because a piece of debris on the road broke the old one off.

Where can I buy the wire that runs into the solenoid and to the engine block ground?

I have done plenty of reading but only found sources for replacing the entire wiring harness.
Thanks in advance. The truck is my DD and I'm missing work without it.

There should be an electrical harness / connector plug near the battery that contains wires that go to the starter solenoid, water temp sensor, oil pressure light, etc. from the engine harness. Disconnect the harness / connector and check all the wires going to the engine components with an electrical meter to see if the wires are broken, fused, damaged, etc. Find the wire / plug pin that goes to the starter solenoid. Connect a wire from the main harness / starter solenoid pin to the starter solenoid (using alligator clips) directly and see if the starter operates. If it does not then you have a bad solenoid.

Sounds stupid but I've had that happen to me because of battery terminals which were tight but just not tight or clean enough.

I have taken the starter off and took it to the parts store and it tested good. Does that test the solenoid?

I'll buy a terminal brush since that's cheap.

I also tested the battery and it failed the test but started my car the next day. The problem kind of just solved itself.
