Electric cooling fan for 83

Hi all
I've got a lifted 83, a big mess - I just posted something about aircleaner in newbie tech section. The fanblades have been hacked off to clear the frame - looks like with a sawzall - very neat

I just replaced the waterpump but the fanblade has to go. So I just ordered a 'sonic' 14" fan and a 185-200 MTPP (wiring kit with sensor). I figure I'll stick the sensor in the drain bung hole on the radiator - its the only available threaded hole.

Any advice on this project much appreciated.
thanks

The drain is on the cold side of the radiator. Not the best place for the temp switch.

If it were me, I'd probably drill and tap the thermostat housing/water outlet to accept the sensor.

Best of all possible worlds would be to restore the factory fan, fan clutch and shroud, if it is possible. I guess your lift prohibits this.

Electric fan setups are always troublesome, sooner, or later.

I know, I chose a cooler thermo switch to compensate. I could go to lower temp sensor too. What is the the temp difference between top and bottom of radiator on a hot day?

yes.

Will the elec fan give me a little power boost?
thanks

Or you could part the upper rad hose and install something like this to put the sensor into the hot coolant stream:

Might be near 100'F, if the radiator is good and airflow thru the core is strong.

100 degrees! whoa! I had no idea. So 200 at the bottom of radiator may be 300 at the top. I guess I'll be tapping the thermostat housing or getting that piece

Wow!! if you're seein anything like 200' at the bottom of the radiator, you got large problems.

On a hot day, the rad cold side should be closer to 150'F
