Does this look right?

Hey guys, I just noticed this on my recent 1982 pickup. The belt closest to the radiator has a slight angle to it. Is this how it is supposed to be? Just doesn't seem right.

No that doesn't look right. P/S pump looks too far forward. Gonna throw that belt or eat it quickly IMO

Doesn't look right at all. Either wrong crank pulley or the wrong power steering setup?

Definitely not working together. Wrong combination of parts.

I think you should have 3 grooves on the crank pulley for a truck with power steering..
Mine does.

The belt on my 87 Is misaligned as well. My engine is from a 2wd and that is why mines angled. I used all my 4wd engine hardware but kept the 2wd crank pulley not knowing there was a difference. I have had no issues with it being angled. It's never thrown a belt or to be honest I've never changed the belt lol. It's been this way for several years now.

The power steering pulley will unbolt from the front of the crankshaft pulley. It is held in place with 4 12mm head bolts. Should be an easy find in any junk yard.

Thanks! I never would have thought it would work either. With my luck it would squeel like a banshee and throw belts as soon as I got over 1500rpms

Lol I've never had any issues with it. It took me along time to figure out why it was like that. Then I figured it out when I put my replacement engine in my 93 which was from a 2wd.

If I remember correctly you have to change the whole harmonic balancer to fix this. You can not just change the outer pulley like someone mention. I've already tried that and my belt stayed In the same position. I do have another harmonic balancer I've just never worried about changing it.

it's NOT the wrong balancer .. crank pulleys/ballancers are the same from 78-95 20R, 22R + re series engines .
I issue is your missing the "bolt on" power steering pulley , which is the 3rd groove

.

The third pulley just bolts to the front of the standard double for the crank. you do not need to remove the crank pulley to mount it as it fits around the crank bolt. Every power steering setup on these engines is made to use the third bolt on pulley set up. just make sure that you tighten the bolts down nice and tight or they will work their way loose. Your pictures are fuzzy, but you are missing the third row for proper belt alignment. I have converted three vehicles to power steering over the years and been under the hood of more than my fair share, the third pulley is the way Toyota designed it to run. There aren't different configurations for different accessory packages. It is always the same, first slot runs the water pump, second air conditioning or smog pump, third power steering. Even if the vehicle never had a/c or a smog pump if it had p/s it had the add-on pulley to give the crank a third row to run it.

Guys I did go and double check I do have three pulleys on my lil engine. However the middle doesn't look like a normal belt would fit on it. It may not be a toyota pulley. I have know clue. I know longer drive that truck as its awaiting a SAS and frame swap so it nothing I really mess with. That engine will be going into my 93 in just a few so once I pull it out I will look and see exactly what I have going on down there.
