difference b/w 4x4 and 4x2 fenders

Is there a difference b/w the fenders of a 4x4 and a 4x2 first gen? If so, does anyone know if they are interchangeable?

The 4x4 fenders have a larger fender flare, while the 4x2's do not.
They're interchangeable though.

I'm curious how that would look. My fenders are pretty chewed up with rust, I was thinking of putting 4x2's on instead of the flared 4x4's. I've got stock wheels with 31" tires, and the flares stick out quite a bit. I thought it might streamline the front end a bit. dunno, was going to wait till someone else did it to see what it looked like. Was that what you were looking to do?

They must be narrower than I thought.
