Dies at idle

my 83 22r pickup runs great but every once in a while it won't idle.

It will keep shutting its self off if I'm not holding the gas...

Suggestions??
Thanks!

Also it fires up and fires back up without hesitation

Welcome to YotaTech!

More information on this complaint would be helpful.

Any other symptoms from the vehicle at all..?

Any work performed recently...?

Tampering..?

Any smoke from tail pipe while poor idle speed occurs..?

Check for intake/vacuum leaks.

Intake air restrictions..?

Air filter dirty..?

Fuel system performance/leaks/damage..?

Incorrect idle speed/incorrect ignition timing..?

Carburetor faulty/incorrect adjustments..?

Fuel mixture..?

Engine accessories failing dragging the engine...?

I literally just got it less than a week ago. I haven't done any work on it. The air filter is good, it has the stock air intake. (Considering a cold air)
There are no vacuum, intake, or any leaks. Other than a small oil leak. But that wouldn't cause it.

I don't know much about fuel mixture or carbs or adjustments for them. But it idles at 1.1k which seems high to me.

Sorry to be so blunt. I don't know much about toyotas or carbed vehicles
