dang it!
So I put new base gasket in for my carb today, well two. On top and blow the plate that sits under the carb. There are two metal things that go into the plate(what they do I don't know). I put one back in, the one that resembles a pipe cut in half the long way. The other I left out on accident,
it resembles a pipe cut in half, but the end is formed into a sort of cup almost like it's supposed to deflect the air/fuel toward something? Anyone know what that does, and how important it is? Don't particularily want to take everything apart again but I will if it actually does something. It runs better now though.

I believe what you are describing as a "pipe" cut in half is an alignment key used to keep the upper part of the carb in line with the lower part. So long as your new gasket is air-tight your good to go. No worries. Everytime I rebuild a carb I find extra pieces.....

ok, I'm reviving an earlier post. My truck idles crappily, but only once in a while. I put a new base gasket under the carb, check all the vacuum lines going to it and cut out any that had any holes in them. It starts better, idles better(for the most part) but still has a random "about to puke at the stoplight" fit every now and again. It's not nearly as bad as before, but I'm still wondering if there is anything short of buying a new carb that it could be. Vacuum lines are good, base of carb is sealed, I just filled up so yet to see if that changes anything but I still want to have a truck that runs well, it's why I bought a Toyota!
