carb issues
so i have an issue with stalling. sometimes she runs right off the bat but most of the time she stalls unless i two foot it. the charge light & brake light is on. does the alternator have anything to do with the choke sticking? also if i have a rebuilt carb. dont even know the brand would switching to a better know new carb (weber 32/36 dgav) work better for the same issue?

I have an '88 4x2 and there is a bad connection between the battery and the fuse box which causes the brake and charge light to come on at the same time. You might want to look into that. What year is your truck? The newer chokes have an electronic control, which could possibly make both issues related. Also, both the fuel cut solenoid and smog controls can cause stalling and rough idling, so it might not be the carburetor.

wiring diagram???
does the chilton books have w/d's for the 82's if so which book do you reccommend? there are two books on the net. one for $13 and one for $22. id guess you get what you pay for so with the more expensive one there is more. also does anyone know if i can download one from anywhere?

I have had the same problem with my 82 4x4 PU, the stalling issues and the charge and brake light coming on. I found the problem with the charge light and brake light though. The wires on the plug connected to the alternator were frayed and barely connected. I rewired them fixed the chargine problem.During this it also caused my battery to burn the battery acid off cuasing a sulfur smell. I refilled the battery with fluid to maintain charge.
I did not however, figure out my eradict idling issue leading to stalling. I'm not sure if you and I are having the same issue with stalling, though. Does anyone know what would cause eradict idling problems? If the truck sits for a few days there is no problems with stalling but as i drive it for several days in a row it begins to idle fast and high down then low and then stalls unless i two-foot it. Even then it bucks like a wild horse during uneven idle while driving as well. it sounds like a bull in heat. If i drive the truck long enough the stalling issue will work it self out but once i turn off the truck and back on again it does the same crazy eradict idling and i have to two-foot it again. I thought it might have to do with the EGR system so i cleaned a few little filters on the EGR valve and made sure the vacuum lines were good, changed PCV but to no avail. Any ideas? It's driving me crazy, any help would be much appreciated.

Idle problems can be caused by a vacuum leak, bad timing or because the truck needs a complete tune up. start checking things out one at a time and you will eventually find out what the problem is.
