So I'm in the process of restoring a 1982 pickup with the 22R under the hood. I have got my Engine rebuilt but have had problems with my original aisin carb. My plan originally was to pick up a Weber 32/36 and Desmoged the engine but I found at a swap meet a holly 600 that I picked up for 100$. Is there an adaptor plate out there that will allow me to use this holly? Or do I need to buy a Weber? And can I still desmog the engine with the holly on?

You can do lots of things but...

CFM=Displacement x RPM x Volumetric efficiency / 3456

Plugging that into a 22R

CFM = 144 x 5500 x 85% / 3456

That gets you about 195 CFM. You can even use some wild VE number such as 150% (really?) and get oh around 350 CFM, that's about the size of the stock carb and any of the recommended Weber replacements. So you should really be asking, 'Should I put a 600 Holley on a 22r'?

 

so the answer is it can be done but its going to cost more and preform poorly thanks guys.

I have a 32/36 and kind of wish I had gotten a 38.

 

The 32/36 and the Aisin are (fuel) economy carbs and as such the secondary's are held closed as long as possible "starving" the engine of CFM's in the mid RPM ranges. Playing around with the point the secondary's open will (should?) improve performance. The 38 has two synchronised barrels thus giving "perfect" CFM's thru the entire range. The Aisin and the 32/36 should give better throttle response at low speeds due to the small primary throttle bore (I believe the Aisin is 28mm) then the 38 especially at WOT, low engine speeds.
