Just did a front brake change on the old yota yesterday and they are still squealing but when changing the front brakes there was not anti squeal pads? Other yota 83 never had when I changed them so I factored that out. Does this mean I have my rear drums to do?

My '80 4x2 has an intermittent brake squeal as well. I rebuilt the drums because it needed it and the squeal is still there. Front pads are not down to the wear indicators yet (which will squeal like mad when they come in contact with the rotors...check that first).

I haven't bothered looking into it further.

 

Did you get new rotors or get the old ones machined? Rotors can sometimes get grooves in them and it will be like the grooves on a record when you step on the brakes it will play that squeel for you.

Also, if you have a lot of brake dust in your drums, that can make noise also, pull the drum off and clean them and along with the front rotors should take care of your noise.

 

How do you pull the drums off? I've never touched drum brakes ever

 

Take the wheels off and hit the drum a few times with a hammer, then try to pull it off as you spin it.

 

So went to Schwabs today for a free brake check.. They said its my rear drum shoes squealing they are thin as a fingernail... So I went to O'Reaillys to ask for shoes but there is two different sizes... 10x 1-31/32 or 10x 2-3/16 brake shoes.. I don't know what ones to get it.

 

So here is my problem !
