anyone modded a newer model gas tank?

my 83 4x4 longbeds gas tank is clogging my fuel filters even though i cleaned it the best i could and even coated the inside with gas tank sealer. I guess i missed a spot! im thinking about buying a new 85-95 17 gallon and welding it in place of the old one. wondering if anyone has done this. it shouldnt be too hard right?

its a direct swap, just make sure you find a carb application and not an injected one. I literally just did this 2 weeks ago, same problem with fuel filters and it ended up ruining my carb. I ordered from rockauto.com. Just find a toyota tank thats the same shape and your good. heres one http://compare.ebay.com/like/1206063...=263602_309572. Good luck with the new tank. Locally, I was quoted over $300 so online seems to be the best bet.

I bought one for a newer truck from ebay about a year ago for about $90 & bolted in to my 81.

i did the swap but was unable to get the skid plate on. had to cut and swap the gas gauge plug wires.the newer tank is too close to the drive shaft. i flexed it today and dented the gas tank.
