83 Tachometer

I need a tachometer for my 83 pickup 4WD because it does not have one. I have found some online made by Auto Meter but I don't know what size hole is in my dash where is should be, it has some sort of filler in it and have never pulled a gauge cluster out before. Anyone know what size it is or if i could make it bigger to fit an after market gauge?

Also the local Pull-A-Part place got a a 87 4-runner in December and I think the tachometer from it might work on my truck if someone else hasn't gotten it yet. Opinions? Thanks.

This is the tachometer im looking at from Auto Meter:

Is there a website I can get them from or do I go to a dealer or something?

Be prepared though, the 83 is not "plug and play". The older (cooler, I think) clusters were, but with the 83 you're going to have to move all but maybe 2 wires in the back of the thing. It's a pain and kind of frustrating, but worth it if you want it to look stock and don't want some ugly aftermarket tach attached somewhere. Just depends on how much you care about that kind of stuff. A lot of people go with aftermarket tachs.

Basically, if you want a stock one, you're looking used. It's not going to be brand new & shiny on some website, ready to order. You'll need to check your junkyards, craigslist, and the classifieds here and over at the Marlin Crawler forum.

I found an old tach behind the seat of my truck I had forgot about I took off and it still works. Its a sun tach II (http://images.thesamba.com/vw/classi...ix/3460038.jpg). Is it possible to cut a larger hole in the dash or should I just use the mounting bracket?
