I've got an 83' and when I lock the hubs and put it in 4 wheel drive it makes a loud clacking noise on the passenger side of the truck and i can feel it each time it clacks. When i go faster the clacking speeds up as well. Any idea what it is or if there is something i can do to find out? I've got some time off from work this next week and I'd like to fix the problem before the snow starts to fall.

it sounds like you may have either a busted hubring (inside the locking hub)
(in case it is the hub: https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f116...ferrerid=12218 )
or a broken birfield joint (kind of like a CV inside the knuckle ball)



sounds like a teardown is in the works for you...

it could be the double cardan joint in the drive front drive shaft it has a collar in it that can come loose and make a clacking noise
