82 Truck No Start

My cousin has an 82 toyota truck that won`t start, it will turn over but there is no spark. He tryed a different coil but nothing changed. he told me that there is no power to the coil, so im thinking its one of two things, either the ignitor or possibly the ignition switch, any help or opinions are appreciated.

try different ignitor/coil that you know works, if that doesen't work I'd bet on ignition switch.

Ignitors are well known for failing in those early trucks.

And keep in mind there is a difference between the Coil and the Ignitor. The coils in these trucks NEVER fail. The Ignitors do.

If you don't already have one, get ahold of an FSM. It tells you how to test the ignitor (it's not too hard to do). As suggested above, you could try another ignitor and coil. I would only do that if you can find a good used one cheap. A new ignitor is very expensive (about $300) so make sure that is the problem before buying a new one.

Anything from 79-83 will work. Not sure what was used on the 84+ carbed engines.
