Just got my 82 up and running. Replaced all heater line and now my heater valve is leaking. Are these NLA? Anybody find a substitute?

I have rebuilt mine .. fairly easy .
the 79-83 OE is not avaliable NEW anymore , only used , but the 84-88 is .. its almost the same , but you will have to re-route the hoses .
I do have a used 79-83 one if your interested , but can not guarantee how long it will work for .

 

I thought about that but didn’t know if it was possible. What did you replace in there?

 

We need some details on this! I've got a hand full of 79-83 leakers and I'm on my last good one.

 

If you haven't found a stock replacement, you might check with the aftermarket A/C suppliers. I checked where I bought my system and they have a couple of options

first , you need to "pop" the plastic cap off the back , it'll be brittle , so be carfull ! . In order to get it apart , you need to bend the tabs back on the back side . you'll be able to pull the mount bracket off of the tubes .
plastic cap is 2 pieces , and after you slide it off the plunger , you can pull it apart to clean .
there is a fiber "wiper" on the inside , you can see in the pic above , as the name stated , it wipes the plunger shaft to keep it clean . I have a punch set , so I made a new one from some felt I had .
the original o-rings are of course metric , I dont have metric , so I used oring from my oring set , a little thinner , but so far so good , I did double stack the 1 o-ring on the shaft of the plunger . seemed to make an even better seal on the shaft .
i'm doing another one , which I am yellow chromemate plating , restoring back to factory new .. so i'll try get a video

Well updating the fix I chose. Later model OEM heater valve, heater bypass kit, and some Gates green stripe. all is good now.
