81' steering problem
#1
i have an 81' toyota pickup. a few friends and i decided to make our trucks into "pre-runners" with a little longer travel and power under the hood. i have the stock 22r engine with propane. for power which is better, the 20r head or a 22re engine? (these would be running off propane). and for my suspension and steering i have 14" shock towers, the u-bolt flip kit, larger leaf springs, and cross over steering. i need some good shocks that will perform well on the street and on the trail. what should i get? im looking into some pro comp rx 6's. i have bucket seats but want a 3 or 4 point harness' to go with it. what are some good brands and where to find them? thanks for any input

sounds like a fun project.
you won't get that much power with a stock 22r, even modified they aren't that strong. the 20r motor runs very low compression and will not like propane at all, but the 22r does well. if you want to stick a 20r head on look at the volume of the chambers (cc's)... if they are the same you will not gain anything by swapping (your goal should be higher compression with smaller chambered heads). another thing to consider is running propane at all. you will loose performance by running propane unless the motor is built to spacifically run propane.
as for a harness, you will need an interior cage built for the proper 4 point harness (what's a 3 point?). using a 4 point harness with out proper mounting can do more harm than good because of spinal compression.

Mastercraft seats are popular and good stuff. You can find them all over. All Pro sells them.
Good harnesses are available from Simpson, Sparco, etc.

For the engine throw the 20r head on your early 22r. 20r heads are 80cc I believe, that just a few cc's smaller than the 22r's. Should bump your compression to about 9.3:1 which is good because propane loves high compression. Engines that are built for propane only are built to 10.5-11.5:1 CR to take advantage of the high octane propane has.

I have Doetsch-Tech MV-12's - big, softly valved shocks. I run 2 at each corner. Super-happy with them. Available from Downey.
