79 toy 4x4 some issues

ok here we go, 79 toy 20r 4x4 m/t, "black edition" all options except sunroof, she has 95k orig miles, she has a really rough idle, actually she won't idle with the air cleaner off it, i have rebuilt the carb, and tried to adjust it, checked timing (good), checked egr (works good) actually took it off and cleaned it! checked vac leaks and really couldnt find anything, i need the air cleaner off to better check though!

it does run better at 2-3k without egr hooked up, checked the fc solenoid (12v switched on) works good, i'm about done with it but maybe someone here has an alternative, maybe something they did and fixed it (the same problem)
please please help, or does anyone have a carb they can sell!

Randy

I do not know about trucks with California emission systems but I know some about trucks with Fed emission system. Check you fuel tank vent / emission lines, canisters and lines going to the carb for leaks. Disconnect the vacumm advance on the distributor, plug the lines and set your ignition timing at 10-12 degrees advance. Start the truck and adjust your carb idle so the truck stays running. Let the engine reach normal temperature then shut it off. Set everything back where you had it and start the truck. If the truck starts and runs then start looking at the emission temperature control vacuum switches going to the carb, distributor, EGR , etc. You will need a factory service manual to find all of temperature control vacuum switches. Example there is a temperature control vacuum switch that switches / modifies the vacumm signal to the distributor, there is a temperature control vacuum switch that unloads the carb choke and many others. Hope this helps you.

Disconnect the canister vent line going to the carb at the control solenoid and plug the hose connection going to the carb. See if that makes a difference.

so i put a carb off an 80 fed and she still runs like crap, in fact kinda back to where it was before, ruff idle and ruff throughought rpm range, but here's the ?
why when i'm on a backwards incline the idle goes up, and on a frontward incline it bogs down
different carb same problem!

i think if i clean up the other carb (rebuild it) it will run better!
LMK if ya'll have any ideas!

Fuel pump? Elec or still old style? If elec might be dying or not enough pressure, maybe fuel filter, or there is a blockage in the line and when you are on an incline it frees itself a little? IDK if it's not the carb it's gotta be in the fuel...
