I had the same problem in mine a little while ago. I had to replace the regulator and rebuild the fuisible links. I ended up just rebuilding them with regular wire and putting in in line blade fuses.

did you get new or used voltage regulators?

I got mine used, but opened it up and cleaned all the dirt and junk out of it before i put it in. also, use a dental pick and rebuild your green fusible link plugs off the positive battery terminal. one of mine was fried inside and it looked fine from the outside.

i also have a truck with the factory voltage amp gauge, and it had a black box with two 5A fuses in it near the green connectors. if you have those make sure they aren't blown (although they may just be for the gauge)

Bumping this bad boy.
I have an L E F alternator chillin in my shop floor.
I need to know which wire runs where.
I know the B is the large white that goes to the battery. That's the charge line.
the L is the large yellow line
and F is the large green
and E is the white/black ground.

Which wire goes where? Which is the 12v sense, the ignition, and the light?
I have a regulator, too, but only 2 of the colors match up to the alternator

Let me pull my schematic when I get home. Should be able to tell you.

If it is a LEF alternator you should have a 5 pin regulator. Facing the female connector on the vehicle wiring harness for the
regulator, and proceeding clockwise from the blank pin position, the
pins are FIELD, BATTERY, IGNITION, LAMP, and GROUND.

That should help you. Good luck

when i had charging issues with my 79 i converted it to a newer style alternator from an 86. a bit more current and internally regulated. the newer alts have a diff mounting bracket though.

on my 82 after i killed the alt i threw on a gm 1 wire and it bolted up no problems with the trail gear alternator mount.

I am having charging issues too with my 81 22r? (not sure, the badge is gone) and want to do a gm 1 wire swap, but would love some instructions. I am planning to order the bracket from low range.

Holy Lazarus!

Don't do a 1 wire swap, do a gm 3 wire swap if you ate going to do anything. A forum search for 3 wire alternator will get you started.

I just spent an hour or so searching for alternator conversions for the older Toyota's. I have had no luck finding anything specific, it seems like all the write ups are for newer trucks.
