78 e brake never worked ..?

hello, I have had a 1978 long flat bed with duels for 15 ? years .The e brake has never worked. should i just go stock repair or are there other options ? Great rig ,we install headstones with it and never spun a tire where you shouldn't..any thoughts ? thank you..The Old Man Hmmmmm? well 175 hits and no comments ?Ah ,such is life haha...How about adding disc brakes on the back ? is that doable ? Thank you ..the Old man

No idea about the rear disc brakes, but I can tell you that I cannot find a correct replacement parking brake cable for my 78 longbed anywhere. My original cable was broken so my e-brakes never worked either. Tried using a later model park brake cable that was a bit too long; no dice. Sorta worked for a bit (applied brakes but not hard enough) then cable broke on me after about 20 pulls total. Feh. Guess I'll have to spend $ to get a custom cable made of the right length. Sorry I couldn't help.

Our 82 diesel has issues also. I made a spacer from 1/2 emt and used to heavy shock washers to tension the cable. I also had an 81 that the rear end had been changed and hookup was incompatible. Never any ebrake on that one. You might could rig something with bicycle cable knaups used for the 4Runner seat repair or cable clamps for steel cable. Just a thought.
