78 4 to 5 speed swap

I am in the process of swapping my 4speed for a 5 speed. The trans bolted up fine, but the crossmember doesn't line up with the bolt holes. both trannys are from a 78 longbed. any help would be appreciated.

5 Speeds are about 4" or so longer. You will need to make some new brackets for your crossmembers...not much of a help I know but....

Where's the 78 5 speed X-member?

If not available, most folks use a 3/8" thick flat plate to extend the
X-member to the transmission mounting holes. Some weld it on and
some use bolts.

Hope this helps.

On my truck the PO installed a plate on the cross member to extend back and mount the tranny. Just 4 bolts on the X-member secures it.
