22re swap

22re swap
Hello, I have an 82' yoti and I'm swapping my 22r carbed motor for a newer 22re. My question is do I have to get a Toyota ecu for the fuel injection or are there others that I can use? Me and my boss are doing the swap at work and he worked for precision turbo for 6 years so we plan on eventually turboing the motor. But that will come later. So are there any stand alone fuel management systems I can use besides buying a Toyota ecu and wiring harness? Thanks

pretty much any stand alone that you can use on other brands, haltech, aem ems, motec etc. I don't see why you can't run it on a 22re, maybe you wouldn't have many options witout coils on plugs, knock sensor, modern injectors, it's bad if you can't use at full potential but still might be worth it on a turbo aplication. In the 84-85 section some guy converted his 22re with a honda fuel injection, I think he never followed thru by explaining how he did it but it did work if I remember, with that the tuning possibilities are almost endless and cheap!

I think that if you want to use a standalone and have to ask these questions you've got a lot of reading and searching to do, you'll have the answer to all your questions and much more on sites dedicated to it. People here use carbs or stock fuel injection or megasquirt at most.

I just happen to have a Toyota ECU for that very engine. Finding a wiring harness should not be that hard. In fact there is a guy here in NC that has a Toyota junk yard. I am sure you could get ahold of him and have him pull you one out and send it to you. His name is John Holland and he own Holland's Auto Salvage. Look him up and see what he says. I got a lot of the parts to finish my rig from him. The ECU I have is an extra one I ended up with because I wanted to have a spare in the event I drowned mine.

if that ecu is up for grabs I really need one for my 2wd auto to 4wd manual swap. I heard there is some power loss on the timing from the ecu from 2wd auto to stick. How much would you want for the ecu shipped to oregon?
