1981 Toyota wiper linkage

Picked up a 1981 Toyota 4x4 with 64k on her. There are a few dings and scrapes but overall in pretty decent shape. I was going over a few things and noticed the drivers side wiper did not work. Come to find out the linkage is disconnected from the passenger side. Passenger side works fine. My question is how do you access the linkage? I have the Chilton manual for it but it says to remove cowl. It seems to be a solid piece from the firewall up to the windshield. Any thoughts on how to reconnect the linkage??

You will have to remove both wipers and mounting nuts/sleeve from the cowl. Remove access panel on drivers side above clutch res. And then pull wiper motor out and disconnect the linkage from motor. Look through the cowl vents to help remove the linkage, there is brace on driver side and heater vent on right side, to work around.

Thanks Lon81 for your response, I took it over to a buddies today and we got it just like you explained but took both of us finagling the linkage to get it snapped back in. The problem soon after we finished was the wiper ended up over extending over the A pillar. If you look at the first pic you can see where it has been rubbing for awhile and has been rusting too. Buddy is gonna grab some new linkage from Yota Jims and see if that will work.

Is that available as a new part? I have to look up Yota Jims.

Mine both work but I think they are worn or need adjustment, if that is possible.

I haven't checked with the local parts store for a new one, figured I would check for an original from a parts truck. Ya definitely have to check out Yota Jims! It is pretty awesome, I went there the other day to line out some parts.
