1980 front differential Noisy??

Got my truck running nicely in response to my previous posts. Thanks for all the advice.
Now we had our first big dump of the year and I got some miles on my 4H gears. I was just curious how much noise these old differentials make. It doesn't sound like clunking or too noisy but it is definitely noticeable while driving. Makes kind of a rumbling sound. just curious what yours sound like and if it is normal to hear it or do I have problems?? Thanks again. John

Here's my beast.

looks like a clean truck...as far as your front diff noise, I don't think a lot of noise is normal...check your fluid level, I think it should be about up to the bottom of the fill hole (that is where I have filled mine to, I could be wrong)..check your u-joints for free play, check your pinion for slop too... sometimes the pinion bearing goes bad and has too much free play...if there is water in your pumpkin (milky/coffee like color-you may have some damage since the gear oil has been floating on the water)...

Have you lubed your birfields recently? also it is going to bind in 4WD on hard packed surfaces...
